Kwara Poly dismisses senior lecturer for extorting students after Informant247 report

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has approved the dismissal of Mr. Lanre Hassan, a former Head of the Department of Estate and Valuation Management, following an Informant247 report that linked him to the extortion of students.
The Press Secretary of the Kwara State Ministry of Tertiary Education, Falade Gbenga, confirmed the development to The Informant247 via telephone on Thursday.
According to him, the Ministry has received Mr. Hassan’s dismissal letter from the institution, and it is currently being processed.
Published on January 6, 2025, the investigative report revealed several corrupt practices involving Mr. Hassan.
The report, supported by voice recordings and receipts as evidence, detailed how he extorted students and demanded money to manipulate their results.
Following an indictment by a panel, the school authorized his dismissal after the story was published. The dismissal letter has now been forwarded to the Ministry of Tertiary Education for final approval.
Mr. Hassan is a prominent real estate valuer in Ilorin and the founder of Lanre Hassan & Co. He has close ties with several chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.
