Kwara poly alumni appeal to Gov. AbdulRazaq for reinstatement of Rector

The Kwara State Polytechnic Worldwide Alumni Association has appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to reconsider and reinstate the Rector of the institution, Dr. Engr. Abdul Jimoh, following his directive to step aside after the student protest of January 21, 2026.

In a statement issued on Friday in Ilorin, the duly elected National Executive Council (NEC) of the association said the appeal was made on behalf of its global network of graduates, describing it as a “heartfelt request” aimed at restoring stability to the Polytechnic.

The alumni body acknowledged the Governor’s “transformative interventions” in the education sector, particularly at Kwara State Polytechnic, noting that the current administration has brought significant progress to the institution.

According to the statement, Dr. Jimoh’s leadership has been central to the stability and development enjoyed by the Polytechnic over the past five years.

The association highlighted improvements in infrastructure, staff welfare and student management, describing the Rector and his team as dependable partners in the execution of the state government’s education agenda.

While noting that the appeal was not meant to excuse any shortcomings, the alumni stressed that the Polytechnic’s management has demonstrated capacity, experience and commitment to aligning with the Governor’s vision for the sector.

The NEC expressed concern that the directive for the Rector to step aside, which followed the recent student protest, had introduced uncertainty within the Polytechnic community, and appealed for a compassionate review of the decision.

The association further pledged its continued support for Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration and its developmental efforts across the state, expressing confidence that the reinstatement of the Rector would help sustain the positive trajectory already achieved at the institution.

The statement was signed by the National Publicity Secretary (Elect) of the association, Comrade Tajudeen Habeeb, popularly known as Tallest.

It would be recalled that the Rector was directed to step aside from his role pending the conclusion of the investigation of the three-person panel set up by the government to investigate the recent protest held by the students of the institution due to the usage of their campus for NYSC orientation exercise.
