Kwara Police declares man wanted for alleged threats to traditionalists
The Kwara State Police Commissioner, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, has taken a strong stance against a man named Salam Ayodeji, who allegedly issued threats to traditionalists in Ilorin.
She has declared him a wanted terrorist by the state Police command and has initiated a manhunt for his arrest.
The incident in question involved Ayodeji visiting a shop owned by traditionalists, Tajudeen and his wife, located at Alaran compound, Ilorin, where they sell television sets.
The police commissioner met with both families to address the situation and demanded that Ayodeji be produced by his family within three days.
She accused him of committing acts of terrorism and defamation against the Police.
Adelesi criticized Ayodeji’s family for failing to educate him about proper behavior and its potential consequences, stating that his actions could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state.
She also questioned the reasoning behind Ayodeji’s actions, noting that the wife of Tajudeen being from Osun State did not automatically make her a traditionalist.
The Police Commissioner also expressed dissatisfaction with the Alaran family for driving the couple out of the area and refunding their shop rent against their wishes.
She demanded that Ayodeji be located and handed over to the command by tomorrow, as she announced that the police force has initiated a manhunt for his apprehension.
Family members of Ayodeji claimed that they have been searching for him since last Friday when he did not return home and his phone remained unreachable.
Tajudeen, one of the alleged victims, expressed resignation to the situation and put his faith in God’s hands. He mentioned that the family of Ayodeji had apologized and sought forgiveness.
Earlier, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, clarified that the Commissioner of Police never approved Ayodeji’s actions or threats, contrary to the claims made in a video by the Muslim cleric. In the video, Ayodeji and his group threatened to take action against the traditionalists and demanded they vacate the shop they occupied.
The Police Commissioner’s response underscores her commitment to maintaining order and addressing threats to the community.
