Kwara police arrest suspected cultist, recover locally made pistol
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally fabricated pistol during a joint security operation in Ilorin.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest followed intelligence-driven operations carried out by police operatives in collaboration with other security agencies and the Kwara State Polytechnic Security Unit.
The statement identified the suspect as Agboola Olamilekan, who was allegedly found in possession of the locally fabricated firearm.
The police said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle violent criminal networks, curb cult-related activities and prevent the proliferation of illegal firearms across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the command remains committed to sustaining the crackdown on cultism and other violent crimes through intelligence-led policing.
He noted that every successful operation strengthens efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve public safety across Kwara State.
The police commissioner added that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members of the criminal network linked to the suspect.
The command reiterated its commitment to advancing the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, through intelligence-led operations, strategic partnerships and sustained efforts to ensure those threatening the peace and security of the state are brought to justice.
