Kwara photojournalist loses valuables worth millions in fire incident

……………appeals for support

An award-winning photojournalist from Kwara State, Abdullahi Sanni, has lost valuables estimated at over five million naira following a fire outbreak.

The incident, according to Sanni, occurred around 1 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, while he was away from his residence in Ilorin.

Speaking with The Informant247, the Kwara-based creative explained that the fire was triggered by an electrical spark from a nearby room.

“The fire incident was caused by a reconnection of electricity in a nearby room to my apartment on Friday,” he said.

Sanni disclosed that the inferno destroyed several valuable items, including digital cameras, academic and professional certificates, speed lights, two laptops, clothing, and other media equipment, all valued at over five million naira.

He appealed to the public and well-meaning individuals for support to help him recover from the loss.

“Public support is needed to get me back on my feet. Any assistance, big or small, will be greatly appreciated,” he added.

Sanni, a graduate of Mass Communication from Kwara State Polytechnic, is regarded as one of the leading creatives in the state. He recently won a photography award at the Annual Campus Journalists Award held in Abuja.

His works, widely admired for their distinction and excellence, have been featured on both national and international platforms.
