Kwara PDP unveils Rev. Fawenu as Kawu’s running mate for 2027 governorship election

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Fawenu as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Rev. Fawenu will run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Engineer Suleiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka, who had earlier emerged as the PDP’s flag bearer.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued in Ilorin on Tuesday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, popularly known as Sholyment.

According to the statement, Kawu formally communicated his choice of Rev. Fawenu to the state chairman of the party after what it described as extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and members across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The governorship candidate described Rev. Fawenu as a man of integrity, humility, compassion and exceptional leadership, saying his selection reflects the party’s commitment to presenting a competent, inclusive and people-oriented ticket for the 2027 election.

The PDP said Rev. Fawenu, an indigene of Babaloma in Kwara South Senatorial District and the current PDP Chairman for Kwara South, emerged after a rigorous selection process involving four shortlisted aspirants.

The party stated that the Kawu-Fawenu ticket combines experience, innovation, grassroots engagement and religious balance, expressing confidence that the duo would provide purposeful leadership and address governance and security challenges in the state.

“Rev. Fawenu emerged as the preferred choice based on his outstanding leadership credentials, loyalty to the party, commitment to its ideals and values, and his immense contributions to promoting peaceful governance, religious harmony and community development in Kwara State,” the statement read.

Rev. Fawenu, 53, is the Presiding Pastor of Oasis of Wisdom Bible Church, Ilorin. He previously served as Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and has over 23 years of ministerial experience.

A graduate of Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the cleric is also recognised as an interfaith advocate and public policy enthusiast who has championed peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians while engaging traditional institutions and communities on peacebuilding and development.

The PDP said the governorship ticket embodies the competence, integrity, experience and inclusive leadership needed to reposition Kwara State and deliver sustainable development, economic prosperity, social justice and accountable governance.

The party called on its members, supporters and residents of the state to unite behind the Kawu-Fawenu ticket as preparations gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
