Kwara: One killed as police engage gunmen in gun battle

Police operatives and local vigilantes have engaged armed criminals in gun battle, resulting in the killing of one suspected bandit at Adekanbi village near Bode Saadu town in Moro local government of Kwara state.

According to report, the armed bandits, who had settled on a hilltop overlooking the village, opened fire after citing operatives as the team approached the location.

However, the security personnel reportedly returned fire, forcing the armed group to flee with gunshot wounds sustained during the encounter.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, said the incident occurred on Thursday, adding that a search of the area after the exchange led to the recovery of one dead suspect.

“Officers also recovered an AK49 rifle and thirty two rounds of live ammunition at the scene”, she added.

Adetoun described the operation as another success in its ongoing effort to dislodge criminal elements across identified hotspots in the state, urging the residents to continue to provide timely information to security agencies in aiding fight against crime.
