Kwara Nursing Students demand security, hostel completion amid Bandit attack
The Student Union Government (SUG) of the Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode, has called for stronger security measures and urgent completion of the institution’s abandoned hostel following a recent banditry attack that left students living off-campus vulnerable.
In a statement signed by the SUG President, Sen. Idris Haruna on Sunday, the union commended both the school management and the Kwara State Government for their efforts so far but stressed that the attack highlighted glaring lapses in security around the host community.
“The recent banditry attack has once again exposed the vulnerability of our colleagues residing off-campus, where limited security presence allowed the attackers to operate unchallenged and escape without resistance. This unfortunate incident has left our students distressed and fearful,” the statement read.
The union urged the authorities to immediately deploy additional security operatives to the school and its environs while also fast-tracking the completion of the abandoned hostel to minimize students’ exposure to external threats.
“We believe that with timely intervention, the safety and confidence of our students can be restored,” Haruna added.
On Sunday, no fewer than 10 persons were killed by bandits amid worsening insecurity challenges facing the northern and southern part of Kwara State.
