Kwara LG Election: NYO urges violence-free process, calls for issue-based campaigns and respect for results

As Kwara State gears up for its local government elections, the Nigeria Youth Organization (NYO) has called for a violence-free process, urging all stakeholders to focus on issue-based campaigns and respect the outcome of the elections.

In a statement signed by Comr Ilufoye Samson, the State Chairman, and Comr Ayuba Bako Marufudeen, the Acting Publicity Secretary, the NYO emphasized the importance of a peaceful electoral process.

The group noted that achieving a credible election requires the collective effort of political parties, candidates, and citizens.

“We appeal to political parties and candidates to prioritize democracy by engaging in issue-based campaigns and refraining from violence and hate speech,” the statement read.

The NYO stressed the need for candidates to respect the rule of law and engage citizens constructively.

The organization also addressed voters in Kwara State, encouraging them to exercise their franchise by making informed decisions and respecting each other’s choices.

They stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during and after the election.

Among the key recommendations outlined by the NYO were:

  • Political stakeholders should respect the electoral process and allow the commission to carry out its duties without interference.
  • Campaigns should focus on critical issues affecting citizens, avoiding divisive language and violence.
  • Citizens must be encouraged to participate equally, ensuring an inclusive process.
  • The results of the election should be respected, with any grievances addressed through legitimate legal channels.

The NYO concluded by expressing confidence that with a shared commitment to peace and democracy, Kwara State could achieve a credible and violence-free local government election, which would contribute to a brighter and more democratic future for its people.
