Kwara launches initiative for fair agricultural land acquisition

The Kwara State Government is set to implement the Framework for Responsible and Inclusive Land-Intensive Agricultural Investment (FRILIA) to promote fairness in land acquisition for agricultural purposes.

Dr. Hauwa Nuru, the commissioner for Finance and chairperson of the Ease of Doing Business Council, announced the initiative during a recent presentation, highlighting its aim to provide equal opportunities for both investors and local communities.

Dr. Nuru emphasized that the FRILIA framework is designed to strengthen the economic value of land utilization, particularly benefiting rural areas, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) program, which seeks to enhance the ease of doing business across various sectors.

Dr. Paul Adepelumi, a FRILIA specialist, noted that the initiative is geared towards facilitating sustainable economic growth while mitigating conflicts arising from competing land claims. He stated that FRILIA aims to create a conducive environment for private investment in agriculture.

Additionally, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afeez Abolore, shared that the framework would enhance transparency in agricultural investments, support poverty reduction, ensure food security, and generate job opportunities.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including Commissioners from multiple sectors and the State Accountant General, demonstrating a united effort to improve agricultural investment in Kwara State.
