Kwara govt urges riverine residents to relocate amid heavy rainfall
Following the forecast of the heavy downpour accompanied by lightening and thunderstorms be experienced from today, Wednesday, 30th July, 2025 by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the Kwara State government has advised residents of riverine community to relocate upstream with immediate effect to avoid loss of lives and property.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Communication, the government urged members to be mindful of their movements and avoid going out whenever it is about to rain.
The statement further advised the disconnection electric appliances from sockets when leaving house to avert power surge and thunder related damages to gadgets, consequent upon the expected heavy rain and thunderstorm.
“To prevent flooding and loss of lives and properties, the state government is currently dredging Asa river, while the Ministry of Environment has also embarked on the clearing of drainages within the metropolis.
“The Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration continues to prioritise the well-being and comfort of the people of the state.
“We urge residents of the state to complement the government’s efforts at taking Kwara State to greater heights,” the statement added.
