Kwara govt sets registration fee for NECO, warns against extortion

The Kwara State Government has approved ₦33,250 for the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) registration fee for candidates in the state.

Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, the state commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, made this known during the floating exercise marking the commencement of the 2025 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) registration at Saint Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin.

Providing a breakdown of the fees, Modibbo-Kawu stated that the NECO fee is ₦27,000, E-registration charges is ₦1,250, Administrative charges is ₦2,000, the Four-figure table ₦500 and Waterproof certificate jacket is ₦2,500.

Hajia Kawu warned principals of senior secondary schools across the state against imposing illegal charges on students for NECO registration.

She emphasised that the state government would not tolerate any additional charges beyond the approved fees, urging school administrators to desist from all forms of examination malpractice.

She further cautioned that any principal found violating these directives would face the full wrath of the law.

The Commissioner, however, commended school principals for their dedication to providing quality education and ensuring the success of students across the state.

Hajia Kawu also expressed appreciation to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for approving the payment of re-accreditation fees for 236 schools due for NECO re-accreditation in 2024, adding that the Governor has also approved the payment of re-inspection fees for 48 schools in preparation for the 2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination.
