Kwara govt seeks Nigerian army’s support to curb indiscriminate dumping of refuse

To curb indiscriminate dumping of refuse and ensure a clean and healthy environment across Kwara, the state government has sought the support of the 22 Brigade Command, Sobi.

This was disclosed during a visit by Nafisat Musa, the State Commissioner for Environment, to the 22 Brigade Commander at its Sobi headquarters in Ilorin.

“We are here to seek the collaboration of the Nigerian Army to achieve a cleaner Kwara, especially in enforcing laws during the monthly sanitation exercise and curbing deforestation, to maintain a clean and hygienic environment conducive to healthy living,” she said.

She further stated, “Indiscriminate dumping has become rampant in the metropolis, and if urgent action is not taken, it may lead to the outbreak of cholera, which is currently affecting almost 33 states in the country.”

“The present administration, under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is committed to ensuring that our environment is safe and healthy for residents.”

Brigadier General Olufemi Williams commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his efforts in repositioning the state to be safe for healthy living and attractive to investors for even development.

General Williams further appreciated the Commissioner for taking the right steps to tackle the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the metropolis, assuring her of the force’s readiness to support the ministry in enforcing environmental laws and any other areas where their services might be needed to achieve a healthy environment in the state.

Accompanying the Commissioner were the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Abubakar Ayinla, Director of Personnel Finance and Supply, Alhaji Okanlawon Taiwo, Director of Forestry, Alhaji Idris Babatunde, Director of Environment, Mrs. Mary Mustapha, and other principal officers from the Ministry.
