Kwara govt reviews procurement in tertiary institutions, plans training to address gaps
The Kwara State Government has concluded a comprehensive review of procurement processes covering both procurable and non-procurable items across all state-owned tertiary institutions.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday by the Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency (KW-PPA), QS Raheem Abdulbaki, in a statement issued by the agency’s press secretary, Abdulazeez Kudirat Olaide.
According to Abdulbaki, the review was carried out to ensure full compliance with the KW-PPA Law of 2018 (as amended) and the state’s procurement regulations.
He explained that the exercise examined procurement activities undertaken between January 2019 and December 2024, including projects funded through TETFund, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), as well as recurrent expenditures.
The KW-PPA boss noted that findings from the review showed that state-owned tertiary institutions performed optimally overall, while also revealing areas that require improvement.
“These include stricter adherence to due process, appropriate application of procurement methods, and better record-keeping practices,” he said.
Abdulbaki added that the gaps identified during the review would be addressed through special training programmes scheduled for the New Year, aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring full compliance with procurement laws across all institutions.
He commended Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to transparency, accountability and best practices in public procurement, describing the Governor’s support as the foundation of the agency’s achievements.
The KW-PPA CEO also praised the management of all state-owned tertiary institutions for their cooperation and openness, which he said contributed significantly to the success of the review exercise.
