Kwara govt reaffirm commitment to children’s welfare

The Kwara State Government has once again emphasized its dedication to childcare and protection, firmly stating it will not tolerate actions destructive to the welfare of children in the state.

This was made known by the Commissioner for Women Affairs. Mrs. Afolashade Justina Oluwakemi Opeyemi during the inauguration of the State Technical Working Groups on Alternative Care for Children in Kwara State, held in Ilorin, the state capital.

Afolashade Justina highlighted the importance of the National Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children in Nigeria, a crucial national document designed to provide coherent standards for nurturing and protecting children.

According to her, the decision is a step in the right direction and that the initiative will significantly contribute to ensuring a bright future for children in Kwara, while assured her full support for the Ministry’s initiatives and expressed her commitment to an open-door policy for the technical group whenever needed.

Meanwhile, the Director of Child Development, Hajia Idiat Alabi, lauded the formation of the group, saying it marks a pivotal advancement toward providing every child with a safe and nurturing environment.

In his opening address, Barrister Michael Awo Ejeh, Assistant National Secretary of the Child Protection Network in Nigeria, laid out the main goal of the newly inaugurated committee: to orient its members, plan their meetings, develop a work plan, and identify advocacy groups to collaborate with in their endeavors.
