Kwara govt partners Tuyil pharmaceutical company to boost local economy and healthcare
In a strategic move aimed at fostering economic growth and enhancing the availability of quality medications in local hospitals, the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board (KWHMB) has announced a partnership with Tuyil Pharmaceutical Company and other indigenous pharmaceutical firms in the state.
During a recent visit to Tuyil Pharmaceutical Company Limited’s production facility located on New Idi Road in Ilorin, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, Executive Secretary of KWHMB, underlined the government’s commitment to supporting local businesses.
He stated, “We want to purchase from our State whenever possible and help our indigenous companies to grow.” This initiative is anticipated to significantly enhance the state’s commercial landscape and generate more job opportunities for residents.
Dr. Malik praised Tuyil Pharmaceutical Company for its reputation in quality drug production, expressing confidence in the firm’s capability to supply high-quality medications to hospitals.
“We want to understand clearly the source of the drugs we provide for our patients,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of quality assurance in the healthcare sector.
With state-of-the-art facilities observed during the visit, Dr. Malik affirmed that Kwara is positioned among the leading pharmaceutical companies globally. He reiterated that while the government is keen to support local enterprises, it will only collaborate with those committed to maintaining quality standards, underscoring that the health of Kwara residents is the administration’s top priority.
Pharm. Bambe Gbenga, Director and Superintendent Pharmacist of Tuyil Pharmaceutical Company Limited, expressed gratitude to the Kwara State Government and KWHMB for the partnership.
He characterized this collaboration as historic, noting that the Hospitals Management Board is the first government agency to work alongside the company, and he assured mutual benefits from the relationship.
Pharm. Bambe also highlighted that Tuyil Pharmaceutical Company has created approximately 1,000 jobs, all sourced from local talent within Kwara State, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to community development.
Other members of the visiting team from the Hospitals Management Board included Pharm. Mustapha Jimoh, Director of Pharmaceutical Services; Pharm. Lovette Oladele, Project Manager of the Kwara State Essential Drugs Programme; Pharm. Mustapha Hasiat, Procurement Officer; Mr. Adamu Usman, Press Secretary; and Mr. Moshood Ibrahim, Administrative Officer of the Board.
