Kwara govt harps on professionalism among health workers

The Kwara State government has called on healthcare workers in the state to imbibe a high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their official responsibilities and ensure patient-centred care to boost the confidence of citizens in public health facilities.

According to Dr Abdulraheem Malik, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospital Management Board, Dr Abdulraheem Malik, it is essential for staff in the laboratory, which is a basic unit of any facility, to adhere strictly to the ethics of their profession and conform with the best international practices.

Represented by Dr. Femi Joseph, the Director of Medical Services and Training, Dr Malik, made this known at Dr. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari’s Mother and Child Hospital in Ilorin during the routine inspection exercise of the Board.

Dr Malik said accurate and reliable diagnosis is key in healthcare while reiterating the Board’s resolve to ensure that health workers bring to bear the profession’s ethics.

The Director of Personnel Finance and Supply of the Board, Mr Abayomi Suleiman Gada, urged the staff to be punctual to their duties at all times as essential workers and warned that undue lateness to work could be detrimental to patients’ health.

In her response, the Matron of the hospital, Mrs Bashira Kamaldeen, expressed satisfaction with the visit and promised to give the best care to patients at all times.

Some of the facilities inspected included the laboratory, medical records, pharmacy, maternity wards, and theatre, among others.
