Kwara govt cracks down on unauthorized motor parks over safety concerns
In a decisive move to eliminate the use of unauthorized motor parks and illegal garages due to safety concerns, the Kwara State Government has issued a stern warning to all commercial road transporters to steer clear of the roadside or face legal consequences.
The warning came from the Kwara State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, during a recent inspection exercise with the State Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and the Kwara Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) in Ilorin metropolis.
Emphasizing the need for well-coordinated motor parks, the Commissioner highlighted that ensuring safety for Kwarans is paramount and aligns with Governor’s agenda to rebrand the state’s traffic management systems to meet global standards.
The inspection covered key areas such as Post-Office, Challenge, Offa Garage, Adisco, and the Baba Ode – Ita-Elepa axis, as part of the government’s efforts to eradicate unauthorized motor parks and enforce transport regulations more rigorously.
The Commissioner also urged commuters to remain vigilant about their safety, advising them to utilize only government-approved motor parks where vehicle documentation and operational standards are closely monitored.
Furthermore, he revealed that work is underway to establish an accurate database of recognized garages across the state to enhance security and improve the coordination of the transport system.
Accompanying the Commissioner were notable officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alh. Salau Kabiru Abdullahi; Directors of the Ministry; KWARTMA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Suleiman Abdullahi Oba; Chief Vehicles Inspection Officer, Engr. Ayuba Isiaq; and state road traffic officers, all committed to ensuring the safety and efficiency of the transport sector.
