Kwara govt calls for support against gender-based violence
Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Health, has condemned gender-based violence across the state while reiterating its stance against acts of violence targeted at girls and women in the society.
Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, the Commissioner for Health, made this known on Monday at a closeout meeting with members of the Stand to End Rape Initiative held at the Training of Trainers Hall of the Ministry.
Dr El-Imam, while emphasising the state government’s efforts at sensitising the public on the dire consequences of violence against girls and women, called on the residents of the state to join in spreading further awareness as well as standing against gender-based violence.
She expressed profound gratitude to the Stand to End Rape Initiative members for their efforts during the sensitisation and awareness exercise while encouraging the organisation to continue initiating impactful programs that will benefit the people of Kwara State.
Speaking at the event, the Program Officer of Stand to End Rape Initiative, Mr Hussein Mohammed thanked Kwara State Government and various Agencies for their unwavering support in ensuring the success of the sensitisation program on violence against girls and women folks.
Mr Mohammed said that the organisation had successfully achieved its goal of raising awareness and supporting the fight against violence targeted against girls and women in society.
