Kwara govt announces new transportation initiative to boost economic growth

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to enhancing the safety of its citizens and stimulating economic growth through a comprehensive transportation roadmap being implemented by the newly created Ministry of Transportation.

During a recent radio broadcast on “Oju-Oba’nle” at Diamond FM in Ilorin, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, the State Commissioner for Transportation, emphasized the importance of establishing a standalone transportation Ministry. He expressed confidence that this move will lead to accelerated improvements in the state’s transport system, making it easier for road transporters to conduct business and contributing to the overall economic prosperity of Kwara.

Commissioner Korasabi revealed that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has crafted operational plans and a reliable transportation roadmap in collaboration with Innoson Automobile Company. This partnership includes an initiative to procure 100 CNG tricycles as part of a pilot scheme aimed at enhancing the state’s transportation infrastructure.

He assured Kwarans that the government is committed to swift action on logistical arrangements for the deployment of CNG tricycles to strategic locations across the state. He appealed for the support and cooperation of Kwarans, local traders, transport unions, and all road users to leverage the benefits of this initiative.

The collaboration on CNG and electric tricycles is intended to mitigate current economic difficulties, lower vehicle maintenance costs, and reduce fuel expenses, ultimately providing much-needed relief to transporters and vehicle owners. This initiative seeks to create a more competitive and sustainable business environment conducive to economic growth.

Moreover, the Commissioner praised the partnership with the Ministry of Works, highlighting the superior architectural standards of the roads being constructed in the state to ensure their longevity. He also issued a warning that the state government will no longer tolerate illegal parking, roadside garages, and violations of transportation laws, asserting that offenders will face legal consequences.
