Kwara govt announces movement restrictions as monthly sanitation holds Saturday
The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly statewide environmental sanitation exercise for February will hold on Saturday, February 28, 2026, between 7:00am and 10:00am.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued from the office of the State Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge.
According to the statement, there will be no human or vehicular movement during the three-hour exercise. It warned that anyone found violating the government’s directive will be apprehended and taken to the nearest mobile court for prosecution, with appropriate fines and penalties imposed as a deterrent.
Residents were urged to take advantage of the exercise to clean their homes, business premises, and drainages, and to eliminate any sources of environmental nuisance or health hazards in order to maintain a clean and safe environment across the state.
The statement emphasized the significance of environmental cleanliness and hygiene, particularly during the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent, noting that “cleanliness is next to godliness.”
It further encouraged residents to prioritize their wellbeing by keeping their surroundings clean to prevent the outbreak of diseases. The government added that waste collection trucks will be deployed across the metropolis for refuse evacuation, while environmental health officers (Wole-Wole), task force teams, and security agencies will be on ground to ensure strict compliance with sanitation laws and guidelines.
