Kwara govt, Al-hikmah varsity sign MoU on Sobi specialist hospital
The Kwara State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Al-Hikmah University to establish a teaching hospital at the Sobi Specialist Hospital in Ilorin. The partnership is seen as a significant development in bridging the gap between public healthcare services and academic institutions, aimed at benefiting the people of Kwara State.
In a Statement Signed by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Health, Falade Gbenga said, the signing ceremony, held at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of the State Ministry of Health, marks the beginning of a public-private partnership designed to enhance the delivery of healthcare while advancing tertiary education.
Speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, expressed her optimism, calling it a pivotal moment for the state.
“Today is an auspicious day for us, a meeting of the town and gown. Under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the state government is committed to providing high-quality healthcare while ensuring access to sustainable education. This MoU is a testament to our dedication to the holistic development of Kwara State,” she said.
Dr. El-Imam emphasized how the collaboration would bridge public and private efforts in the health sector.
“This partnership is a clear indication that the government prioritizes the development of healthcare and education systems for the benefit of all. It’s about ensuring our people have access to both quality healthcare and educational opportunities,” she said.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Arinde, expressed the significance of the MoU in addressing the state’s growing need for skilled healthcare professionals.
“Education is the foundation of any progress, and with this collaboration, we are taking a huge step toward producing skilled doctors and healthcare workers. This partnership will not only benefit students but will ultimately strengthen our healthcare system to meet the needs of our citizens,” she stated.
Also speaking at the event was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Al-Hikmah University, Dr. Sikirullahi Nurudeen, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the government.
“We are delighted to partner with the state in this endeavor. We recognize the strides the government is making in the health sector, and we believe this MoU will elevate healthcare outcomes across Kwara State,” he said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Alhaja Afusat Adenike Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara Hospital Management Board, Dr. Malik Abdulraheem, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Justice and academia from Al-Hikmah University.
