Kwara govt aims for efficient justice system as Ministry of Justice garners N689.3m in three months

The Kwara State Government, through its Ministry of Justice, has promised to prioritize the prompt prosecution and defense of legal cases.

“We are committed to not only accepting cases but also ensuring many are resolved and concluded,” declared Senior Ibrahim Sulyman Esq., the Attorney General and Honourable Commissioner for Justice, during a recent scorecard presentation at an Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing in Ilorin.

Speaking on behalf of the Attorney General, Mrs. Sabitiyu Kikelomo Grillo, the Permanent Secretary and Solicitor General of the Ministry, detailed the achievements across the Ministry’s six directorates and two centres.

“The Directorate of Public Prosecution has received 437 cases, with 47 resolved and 389 still ongoing,” she noted.

She also highlighted that the Directorate of Civil Litigation has 32 cases received, with 6 concluded and 24 currently ongoing.

Additional statistics from other directorates showed ongoing efforts: the Directorate of Revenue Services has 155 ongoing cases, while the Directorate of Legal Drafting reported a remarkable 43 cases received and concluded. The Directorate of Public Defenders indicated 32 received cases, with 8 concluded and 89 pending. Finally, the Directorate of Citizen Mediation Centre recorded 40 received cases, 37 concluded, and 3 pending. The Ministry has generated a total revenue of #689,342,095.49 during the review period.

In his remarks, the Attorney General expressed appreciation to Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his support. “We are thankful for the Governor’s swift approvals, which have significantly contributed to our successes,” he stated.
