Kwara State, Nigeria – In a significant development, the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has given his approval for the promotion and step upgrade of 436 members of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) workforce.
This decision comes as a recognition of the staff’s dedication to the revenue mobilization mandate and their outstanding achievement of generating N35.4 billion, equivalent to 112% of the IGR budget for the state in 2022, a remarkable improvement from the 95.5% achieved in 2021.
The promotion exercise encompassed 248 staff, comprising 50 in the senior cadre and 198 in the junior cadre, while an additional 188 staff received letters of step upgrade.
This move follows the 2021 staff appraisal in KW-IRS, where 332 staff were promoted, and 235 staff received step upgrades.
KW-IRS has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to staff welfare, vowing to continue achieving significant milestones in line with industry best practices.
In a statement signed by the Executive Chairman of KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, the service states that the organization will intensify its strategic engagements with taxpayers and stakeholders, bolster its efforts to block revenue leakages through the implementation of innovative initiatives and deploy modern technology to reach the set IGR target for 2023.
KW-IRS expressed deep appreciation to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the opportunity to explore various innovations over the years. KW-IRS also extended its gratitude to taxpayers and other stakeholders who have played a pivotal role in supporting the seamless processes of tax administration in the state.
The statement reiterated the service’s commitment to providing a conducive work and business environment while prioritizing the welfare of its workforce. This includes an extensive training plan, enhanced service delivery, healthcare, and work-life balance initiatives to boost revenue generation for the state.
