Kwara Government blames residents over increase in COVID-19 cases
The Kwara State Government has blamed residents of the state over the recent upsurge in number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
On Saturday, the Kwara State Government through the Medical Advisory Committee disclosed that the state has entered the second phase of the virus of as the number of cases rose to 180 between November 11th-December 11th after it had already dropped to 63 between September 11th- October 11th 2020.
According to the Chairman of the committee, Dr Femi Oladiji, one of the reasons for the sudden increase in the number of recorded cases is “the nonchalant attitude of many Kwara State residents and non-adherence to preventive measures against the disease.”
Other reasons he stated are: increase in awareness for voluntary testing, influx of people from other States in Nigeria and from overseas, expansion of sampling and testing capacities by the State which was assisted by the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Regional Disease Surveillance System Enhancement (REDISSE) and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
He therefore advised the residents to abide by the safety guidelines in order to mitigate the spread of the virus.
