Kwara Gov urges NYSC members to embrace discipline, community engagement

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has urged the newly sworn-in members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) to demonstrate discipline and actively engage in camp activities aimed at enhancing their developmental skills.

The governor, during the swearing-in ceremony for Batch ‘A’, Stream II corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, highlighted the importance of commitment and active participation.

The ceremony was officiated by the Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Adebara, who was represented by Honourable Justice Sulaiman Mobolaji Akanbi, administering the “NYSC Oath of Allegiance” to the corps members.

Representing Governor AbdulRazaq, the Kwara State Commissioner for Youths Development, Amb. Ndanusa Usman Shehu, welcomed the corps members to the “State of Harmony” and encouraged them to engage in various activities, including physical training, paramilitary drills, and leadership training.

“You must be serious-minded and take all orientation activities with the required vigor,” the Governor emphasized, assuring the corps members that the State Government is committed to creating an enabling environment for their success.

He urged the corps members to uphold the values of service and humility, stating, “Present yourselves as worthy ambassadors of your families by showcasing the sterling qualities enshrined in the NYSC motto.”

“I can assure you that the government will continue to create an environment that promotes the well-being and security of corps members who are deployed to Kwara State for their national service,” Governor AbdulRazaq affirmed.

The Chairman of the Kwara State NYSC Governing Board, Amb. Ndanusa Usman Shehu, represented by Dr. Mrs. Adenike Funmilola Ajide, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support of the NYSC scheme in the state and urged corps members to engage in selfless service and contribute significantly to their host communities.

In his address, State Coordinator for NYSC, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, praised Governor AbdulRazaq for his swift action in repairing and remodeling the camp following storm damage. He celebrated the corps members for their eagerness to embark on their mandatory service year and outlined various activities planned for their education and entertainment, reminding them to comply with all camp rules.

A total of 2,500 corps members, comprising 1,206 males and 1,294 females, were sworn in at the Yikpata camp, with additional corps members from Lagos State also in attendance.

Dignitaries at the event included representatives from the NYSC Director General, Mrs. Ogunfunwa Olayinka, Hon. Mubarak Bello, former SA Student Affairs, and the Commissioner of Police, CSP Jimoh Muhammed Tunde, among others.
