Kwara fire service responds to truck collision involving diesel tanker along Kanbi/Olooru expressway
The Kwara State Fire Service has promptly responded to a road traffic accident at Shao Junction, along the Kanbi/Olooru Expressway, Moro local government area of the state.
It was gathered that the accident involved two articulated trucks and a diesel tanker with a capacity of 45,000 litres, bearing registration number T-16758LA.
According to reports, the tanker, conveying diesel, had a head-on collision with a stationary truck parked by the roadside, damaging the tanker’s compressed air tank and air lines and resulting in brake failure.
It was further noted that the situation was complicated by road construction on the opposite lane, forcing all vehicles to ply a single route, making maneuvering difficult, especially with an obstructing parked truck.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, further revealed that firefighters acted swiftly to prevent a fire outbreak by thoroughly wetting the accident scene and the affected tanker, adding that the collaborative efforts of security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, FRSC, and KWATMA, ensured order and safety at the scene.
Adekunle asserted that through coordinated efforts, “the diesel was safely transloaded into an empty tanker (registration number AAA-527YA) using the siphoning method, while security personnel maintained a vigilant presence to ensure safety at the scene.”
“The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service extended his appreciation to the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, FRSC, and KWATMA for their vital support, which enabled the Fire Service to perform its duties efficiently and without obstruction,” the statement concluded.
