The Kwara State government has cautioned farmers in the state against the use of chemicals that are capable of endangering the life of forest animals.
The Director of Forestry, Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Idris Babatunde Mahmud said this during a visit to Owu Water Fall and its environs in commemoration of this year’s International Day of Biodiversity (IDB) with the theme “We Are Part of the Solution”.
He said the government will work toward creating awareness, preserving biological diversity, and avoid endangering the lives of plants and animals.
He emphasized the need for farmers to be cautious of the types of chemicals used in planting as it washes down to rivers and streams thereby endangering the lives of animals and the forest.
The director, who said the purpose of the visit was to assess the health of the forest and the animals, stressed that it was meant to showcase the biodiversity with a view to protect and restore the ecological services it provides.
“There should be noninterference of man to forest and animals, they are all beneficial to us, let us continue to take good care of them for our own good,” he added.
