Kwara ex-finance commissioner, Banu, others remanded in EFCC custody

A Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, on Wednesday ordered the remand of a former Kwara State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Ademola Banu, and two others in his co-defendants in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission pending the ruling on their bail applications.

The anti-graft body is prosecuting the Ex-Commissioner and two others on fraud related offences.

The arraignment of the accused persons commences after three separate adjournments.

Banu is facing a one count charge of conspiring with the Banker, Olanrewaju Adeniyi and his company Travellers Messanger Limited to launder the sum of 411 million naira belonging to the Kwara State Government.

Although, they all pleaded not guilty to the charges, counsel to EFCC Emeka Omewa requested that they be remanded in prison custody till the trial date.

The defence counsels objected the argument and expressed their readiness for the trial immediately, and referred the court to their bail applications stating that the alleged offences are bailable and the defendants will not jump the bail if granted.

Justice Babagana Ashigar however ruled that the defendants be remanded in EFCC custody and adjourned till 10th of next month to rule on their bail applications
