Kwara eases restrictions on outdoor advertising, maintains ban on new billboards

The Kwara State Taskforce on Billboards and Signages has announced a partial easing of restrictions on outdoor advertising, while upholding the existing ban on new billboard installations.

According to a statement issued by Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, the Commissioner of communication and also the chairman of the state taskforce committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages, the advertising practitioners are now permitted to change flex/banners on existing approved billboard structures and continue maintenance of current installations.

However, the ban on erecting new billboards and signages remains firmly in place, with violators facing severe penalties and potential legal prosecution.

The statement further announced the upcoming launch of a digital registration portal for outdoor advertising, aimed at streamlining permit applications and enhancing compliance monitoring.

The taskforce expressed appreciation for the cooperation of advertising practitioners during the ongoing urban renewal exercise, highlighting the importance of maintaining Kwara’s aesthetic standards.
