The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, Paul Odama has directed the command to arrest one of its officers, Stephen Yohanna.
The said police officer in a video which has gone viral on social media was acting under the influence of alcohol.
He could be seen urinating and messing up in his uniform.
One of the police officers who were holding him asked: “Oga, should we go and drop him?”. And a superior officer replied: “No, he (Yohanna) is still on duty. Leave him, let him stand.”
A voice could be heard in the video saying, “See how a Nigerian police inspector shit for body (sic). He claimed his salary is not enough for him to do anything. I want the whole world to see you and wait to see what the authorities would do about the issue.”
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State said the police command was ‘miffed’ over the issue.
He referred to the video as ‘highly repulsive’.
He said the police officer’s case ‘is more medical than alcoholic’.
The spokesperson of the state police Command, SP Ajayi Okasanmi in a statement said: “After viewing the video, the CP Paul Odama, swiftly directed that the policeman be identified and arrested.
“The Command wishes to state that the police inspector who is attached to Share Division in Irepodun LGA of Kwara State has been identified and discovered to be currently undergoing medical examination in the police clinic to ascertain the state of his mental health.
“It was observed that his case is more medical than alcoholic and the result of his medical examination will determine the next action to be taken against him.
“Consequently, the CP has directed that the inspector be put under close observation by his immediate supervisor, the Divisional Police Officer of Share Division pending the conclusion of his treatment.”
We’ll celebrate on Abuja streets: FG denied us Eagle Square
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has taken a swipe at the federal government for not approving the use of the Eagle Square for the celebration of this year’s Workers’ Day.
According to The Informant247, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday May 1 a public holiday to celebrate 2023 Workers Day.
The public holiday was declared by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Shuaib Belgore on behalf of the minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola on Friday April 28.
The general secretary of the NLC, Emmanuel Ugboaja in a statement said the workers would celebrate the day on Abuja streets to reconnect with the people.
“As you must have been aware of the last-minute questionable action of the government at the centre to deny us the use of the Eagle Square for this year’s May-Day celebrations three days to the event, despite having granted us the permit months ago,” the NLC said.
“Do remember that this is a venue we have been using in the past decades for our May Day celebrations.
“The sudden decision to withdraw the permit may be laden with mischief and actually a sign of what is to come in the near future. It is a call to all of us to be prepared.
“As a result of this unfortunate development, we want to inform you that we have decided to shift the venue for the celebration to the streets of Abuja.
“This is so that we can deepen our reconnection with the people who are our true partners in the struggle for a free society.”
The labour union said its members and affiliates would take off from national headquarters of the union by 8:00am.
He gave an assurance of continued dedication to the principles and norms of the Union.
