Kwara court fines police N5 million over lawyer’s harassment

The Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State on Monday slammed five million naira damages against the Inspector General of police and seven others, over assault on a legal practitioner, Lukman Bello.

The judge, Justice Babangana Ashigar, who presided over the matter also ordered the police to tender a letter of unalloyed apology to Bello.

Justice Ashigar, granted perpentual injunction restraining the respondent from further arresting, assaulting torturing or holding Bello on detention over the matter.

Speaking with our Judiciary THE INFORMANT247, a member of Bello’s legal team, Barrister Y.K Iyanda, expressed satisfaction over the judgement.

Recall that Bello was beaten up and stripped at the respondents’ territory two years ago for stepping on the traffic line.
