Kwara communities oppose establishment of hotels over security concerns
Landlords and residents of four communities in Okoerin ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara have raised their voices against the establishment of hotels and alcohol joints in the area.
The communities affected include Ifesowapo, Alalubarika, Osere, and Okoerin. Alhaji Abdulwahab Opeloyeru, chairman of Ifesowapo community and spokesperson for the concerned residents, shared their stance during a recent interview.
According to Opeloyeru, the community’s opposition stems from a security meeting convened to address the ongoing construction of a hotel in the densely populated region. “Establishing a hotel in this area will escalate social vices as well as disturb the existing peace and harmony in the communities,” he stated.
He emphasized that the presence of such establishments poses a security risk and can negatively impact the morale of the youth. “So in view of the security risk, establishing a hotel, beer parlour, or alcoholic joint is not acceptable in this environment,” he added.
The residents have taken a united stand, inviting the hotel owner to express their displeasure. They have also alerted the State Police Command and the State Town Planning Authority to take action, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining peace in the area.
