Kwara committed to eradicating domestic violence, supporting family values – Commissioner

The Kwara State government has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating all forms of domestic violence and discrimination against women and children, emphasizing the promotion of family values within the community.

This pledge was articulated by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Afolashade Opeyemi Oluwakemi, during the First Quarter Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing for 2025, held at the Ministry of Finance conference room.

During her address, Mrs. Oluwakemi highlighted the ministry’s responsibility to foster environments that ensure equity and equality for women and children throughout the state.

She outlined the government’s proactive measures to eradicate violence and discrimination against vulnerable groups, aiming to uplift their living standards through comprehensive policies and programs.

The Commissioner shared insights into the achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration, particularly advocacy initiatives aimed at sensitizing rural women in Lafiagi and Babanla communities about the dangers of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

These efforts are aimed at discouraging harmful practices and protecting the health and rights of women and girls in these areas.

Mrs. Oluwakemi encouraged citizens to report any cases of violence affecting women and children, assuring that the Ministry is dedicated to taking appropriate actions to ensure justice for victims.

She also announced that the Governor has approved welfare packages for 150 widows across the three Senatorial Districts, aimed at providing support and alleviating their burdens.
