Kwara Central: Mashood Mustapha endorses power shift to Ilorin East, South
A former House of Representatives member and scribe of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Moshood Mustapha, has joined the ongoing campaign for power shift from Ilorin West/ Asa constituency to Ilorin South/East federal constituency in the forthcoming Kwara Central Senatorial election.
Mustapha, who aspired to occupy the governorship seat in 2019, made the commitment while playing host to members of the Concerned Ilorin West Stakeholders in Kwara Central District on Monday.
The group led by the TIC Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, Hon. Abdul-Hameed Alli (Mr. Nigeria), visited the former rep member on the Eid Ul Fitr Celebration day.
The Convener, in his remark, said that the major agitation of the group is a smooth and peaceful power shift from Ilorin West Local Government which has been producing Senators in Kwara Central since the Second Republic.
Alli said that the visit was to seek the support of Stakeholders in ensuring that Equity, Fairness and Justice are achieved in the emergence of the next Kwara Central Senator.
He further stated that he decided to embark on a campaign for stakeholders to correct the notion that he was being sponsored by some interest groups or individuals.
However, responding, an elated Mustapha expressed commitment to the group’s cause, saying politics shouldn’t be a do-or-die affair.
He said, “Elective or appointive positions should not be done in a way that will show that one is being selfish. Politics should be selfless.
“I believe that what is important to all of us is the larger picture and I believe that this is the time for all of us to come together and see reasons. We are all involved in the agenda you have brought to me today. We have all been involved in it in the interest of our dear state and particularly our senatorial long before now.”
He also stated emphatically that Ilorin West is not supposed to present the next Senator.
“I support the Senatorial power shift from Ilorin West /Asa to Ilorin South / Ilorin East constituency because Asa has had a fair share of it by providence,” the former lawmaker declared.
He added, “As it is, I am of the view that Ilorin West is not supposed to present the next senator and make bold to say it that I have even made my views known to some people that matter, including the present serving senator. I support the senatorial power shift from Ilorin West/Asa to Ilorin South / Ilorin East constituency because Asa has had a fair share of it by providence.
“For this reason, I Moshood Atanda Mustapha support your course because we have equally qualified persons there too. I support your course not because I have hatred for anybody, not because I have anybody in mind. This is one family affair. Central is one emirate and if you have one patrimony that is owned by a family, it has to go round the four local governments that make up the emirate family in the interest of equity, fairness and justice.”
