Kwara Assembly calls for reduction in state owned technical colleges

The Kwara State House of Assembly has on Tuesday, 7th January, admonished Kwara state Government to reduce the number of state-owned technical colleges from six to three in order to drive more development.

This suggestion was contained in the resolution of the House after the adoption of Committee on Education and Human Capital Development on a memorandum to revamp technical and vocational education in the state

Mohammad Baba-Salihu, the Chairman of the committee during the report presentation made it known that the number of state-owned technical colleges might be increased in future after a thorough impact assessment of the three.

Baba-Salihu who represents Okuta-Yashikira state constituency further noted that in order to meet the required standard, the committee recommendation is that the government should embark on a massive repair of the Government Technical Colleges located at Esie, Ilorin and Pategi.

He added that the committee also recommended making the schools tuitions free and with full boarding facilities to encourage enrolment.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, during the reading the House resolutions said that the resuscitation of the technical schools would enhance the students’ technical skills and tackle unemployment in the state.
