Kwara announces modified sanitation exercise for December

The Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has announced a modified environmental sanitation exercise for the last month in the year 2024.

Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, the state Commissioner for Environment who stated this in Ilorin Friday, 27th December 2024, when addressing the press in her office, said the exercise will hold between seven o’clock and ten o’clock (7: 00am to 10:am) in the morning.

The Commissioner, who prayed that the festive period would bring peace and happiness to all, enjoined residents to sustain a clean environment and abide by relevant laws by ensuring sanitation of their homes and business environments to enhance healthy living.

Buge, while stating that there will be no restrictions on vehicular movement due to ongoing festivities, said there will be a house-to-house visit by Environmental Health Officers (wole-wole), led by Environmental Taskforce, to ensure compliance with relevant sanitary laws, adding that waste management trucks will be made available for waste collections and subsequent dumping of refuse at the Government approved dump site.

The Commissioner, therefore, warned members of the public that “it is an offence punishable under the law to dump refuse on pedestrian walkways, road dividers, drainage, canals and all other unapproved dump sites.
