Kwara adopts multiple strategies to tackle insecurity
The Kwara State Government has emphasized its commitment to tackling emerging security challenges through comprehensive strategies designed to ensure the safety and stability of the region.
This was made known by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, during a welcome address to participants of the Senior Course 47 from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, who are visiting Kwara State for a study tour.
Prof. Saba noted that while Kwara has been recognized as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, it remains vulnerable to the growing security threats that plague other regions of the country.
He underscored that the state government is proactively implementing a range of measures to mitigate these challenges.
“Despite enjoying relative peace and stability, Kwara is not exempt from issues like rural banditry, farmer-herder conflicts, youth restiveness, and the infiltration of criminal elements into peri-urban areas,” Saba stated.
The state’s strategy focuses on enhancing community policing, investing in modern surveillance technology, promoting inter-agency collaboration, and mobilizing grassroots intelligence by involving traditional institutions and local stakeholders.
The SSG urged the visiting team to make the most of the resources at their disposal to gather critical data that could assist in addressing security issues not only in Kwara but throughout Nigeria.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of General Services, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Yita, assured the delegation of the full support of the state government during their visit, highlighting the opportunity for mutual learning and the exchange of ideas.
In response, team leader Colonel U.H. Mohammed expressed that their mission is research-oriented and expressed optimism about accessing sufficient data to formulate actionable recommendations that could enhance security measures at both state and national levels. He also extended gratitude to the state government for the warm hospitality shown to them.
