Kwara ADC congress: Basambo emerges publicity secretary, vows to defend masses

The Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has successfully conducted its State Congress, with Comrade Basambo Abubakar Kabir emerging as the party’s State Publicity Secretary.

The congress, held on Saturday at the party’s State Secretariat in Ilorin, was described as peaceful and well-organised, drawing participation from party leaders and members across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Basambo, who was the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Kwara State, in a statement on Sunday, expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for their support and commitment to the growth of the party.

He particularly acknowledged the contributions of Prof. Gana Issa and other stakeholders, commending their endurance, sacrifice, and steadfastness in what he described as a collective struggle for a better future.

Speaking on his emergence, Basambo pledged to promote the image of the party, defend the interests of the masses, and remain resolute in holding those in power accountable.

He criticised the current state of governance in the country and the state, alleging that the political system has become detrimental to the welfare of ordinary citizens.

According to him, “the politics being played by those in power today is completely out of control,” adding that it has translated into hardship for the masses through rising insecurity, economic challenges, and a struggling health sector.

The newly elected spokesperson, however, expressed optimism that with unity and determination, the ADC would provide a credible platform to address the challenges facing the people.

He added that the party remains committed to championing policies that will tackle poverty, insecurity, and deficiencies in the health sector.

The ADC reiterated its call for collective action, stressing that both Kwara State and Nigeria deserve better governance and improved living conditions for citizens.
