Kwara, Abuja, Lagos, others to experience thunderstorms as strong winds may precede rain

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms across several states in the country, warning that strong winds may precede the rainfall.

In a weather outlook issued on its official X page on March 13, 2025, NiMet stated that the forecast is valid from 00:00 to 23:59 on March 14, 2025.

According to the agency, the states expected to experience thunderstorms include Ilorin, Ibadan, Lagos, Minna, Akure, Abuja, Lokoja, Asaba, Makurdi, Port Harcourt, Lafia, and Uyo. Meanwhile, areas such as Kebbi, parts of Sokoto, Gusau, and Kaduna are expected to experience thunder.

Advisory for Residents and Airline Operators

NiMet also issued safety advisories, urging the public to take necessary precautions. These include:

  1. Strong Winds Alert: Thunderstorm-prone areas may experience strong winds before rainfall, and residents are advised to take adequate precautions.
  2. Safety Measures: The public is encouraged to adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
  3. Air Travel Caution: Airline operators should obtain updated weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
  4. Stay Informed: Residents are advised to keep up with weather updates via NiMet’s official website, www.nimet.gov.ng.

NiMet emphasized the importance of staying updated on weather conditions to minimize risks associated with severe weather patterns.
