Kwara 2027: “It’s our time” — Senator Ashiru declares support for Kwara south aspirants

Senator Oyelola Ashiru, representing Kwara South at the National Assembly, has restated his commitment to backing any candidate from the zone who aspires to governorship in 2027.

Speaking on Saturday, September 13, 2026, at the Kwara South Leaders’ Roundtable in Oro, the lawmaker said it is the rightful turn of the district to produce the next governor of the state after the expiration of the current administration’s tenure.

Ashiru urged political leaders and stakeholders in Kwara South to unite, lobby, and work together towards realizing the ambition, stressing that it was the best opportunity for the region to occupy the highest office in the state.

“In the year 2027, the critical question is how do we approach our political path after the expiration of this term? Do we sit at home and look? It’s the right of everyone from Kwara South to aspire for Governor. It’s our right!” he declared.

The Senator emphasized that collective effort and internal support within the district would be crucial in determining the political future of the zone.

“You need to lobby and stand up straight for our tomorrow in Kwara South. We need to support one another to emerge as governor come 2027. It’s our time in Kwara South, and this is the better time to get the highest office in the state,” Ashiru added.

Also speaking at the event, a legal luminary, Biodun Dada Esq, maintained that there is no constitutional barrier within the All Progressives Congress (APC) preventing Kwara South indigenes from vying for governorship.

“There is no zoning in the constitution of the APC; therefore, sons and daughters of Kwara South are free to contest for the governorship seat in 2027. We will deploy our network and resources to support them,” he said.

The roundtable, which held at Gbenab Executive Hotel, Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, was convened by NICO boss, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, and drew leaders from across the senatorial district to deliberate on political strategies and regional development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
