KWACReSAL to establish nurseries in Ipetu-Igbomina
In the continuation of its preliminary mechanism for the establishment of nurseries, the Kwara State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (KWACReSAL) has visited Ipetu-Igbomina, Irepodun local government area of the state to ensure readiness of its operation in the community.
The Informant247 reports that Ipetu-Igbomina is one of the six communities in Kwara that have been designated to benefit from ACReSAL’s nurseries project
aimed at addressing climate issues as it relates to boosting the socio-economic livelihoods of community members by focusing on planting different seedlings and economic trees in the nurseries for the benefit of the communities. This project aligned with the vision and agenda of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to tackle climate change, boost food security, and improve the socio-economic conditions of the people.
It would be recalled that the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of ACReSAL, led by the State Project Coordinator, Alhaji Shamsideen Aregbe, had previously visited Ipetu-Igbomina on different occasions for stakeholders’ engagement, site inspection, delineation, and community sensitisation.
However, the recent visit to the community marks the continuation of the process for the prompt execution of the nursery project, which involved land pegging layout and land clearing to effectively secure and mark out the boundaries of the five hectares for the nursery site in the community.
Part of the exercises also involved the use of electromagnetic method to explore groundwater at the site, as conducted by the Water Resources Officer, Mrs Olajumoke Yusuf, with the support of Geologist Fikayo Ayilara of the Kwara State Ministry of Water Resources, a process that yielded positive outcomes.
The Kwara ACReSAL’s nursery project has been widely accepted and commended by the Ipetu-Igbomina community, attracting the royal blessing of the monarch, Onipetu of Ipetu, Oba Samuel Olabanji Olanrewaju Erinfolami.
