KLCI holds ‘skill2rural Bootcamp’ in Ilorin

The Kwara State branch of the Kayode Alabi Leadership and Career Initiative (KLCI), on Friday, hosted the maiden edition of its skill2rural Bootcamp.

The event which was held at Fate hall, in Ilorin was attended by the governor’s aide on SDG, Dr. Jamila B. Ibrahim; and facilitators – Omolola Lipede, Emmanuel Tobiloba, Grace Abikoye, Hammed Kayode and Zubaidat Oyiza.

The statements issued by Olatunji Hassan Taiye, the foundation’s Director of Media and communication, read partly, “Qualitative education (SDG 4) is the focal objective upon which the non-governmental outfit, Kayode Alabi Leadership and Career Initiative (klci) focus on. Activities of the NGO include Project LECT (leadership, entrepreneurial and character training), skill2Rural, Teacher-In-Training Bootcamp amongst others.

“The programme “Skill2rural Bootcamp”  is a two-day programme, which focuses on bringing secondary schools students in underserved communities together in a safe place to think productively, design strategies, and co-create solutions to solve major problems facing their immediate society.

“Today, (Friday, 3rd September, 2021) being the first day of the Bootcamp was started off with registration and settling in of the participants around 9:00AM. Afterwhich, the Kwara state Coordinator (Miss Fatimah Muhammad) gave her welcome address and the founder of the Organization (Mr. Hammed Kayode Alabi) made a powerful presentation on the topic “why you matter”. In his speech, Mr. Hammed highlighted the need for students to collaborate with their peers to create sustainable solutions to the problems in their environment. He also admonished that the student shouldn’t see mistakes as a setback but rather take it as a stepping stone to greatness.

“Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (the SSA to Kwara state governor on SDG) facilitated the first session introducing the participants to the sustainable development goals. She enlightened the students on Sustainable Development Goals and explained thoroughly, how SDGs came into existence and how far the goals have been achieved globally. The session was concluded by urging the students to advocate and work towards the achievement of the goals in their immediate environment.

“Miss Omolola Lipide facilitated the session on design thinking and she reiterated the need for the students to think creatively, ideate and create accessory plans. Mr. Emmanuel Tobiloba facilitated the session on “Vision onboarding”. It was an intriguing experience as the participants were exposed to processes and guidance to creating a unique vision and goal. Storytelling for Impact was facilitated by Zubaidat Oyiza, after which there was a lunch break for the guest.

“Other sessions of the Bootcamp include “Servant leadership”, which was handled by Grace Abikoye; video watch and demonstration; and Entrepreneurship classes. The programme was brought to a close around 5:00PM after some announcement and closing remarks by Mr. Olatunji Hassan Taiye. The day 2 Bootcamp continues tomorrow (Saturday, 4th September, 2021) by 8:00 AM.”

The programme was well attended by secondary school students and their teachers among others.
