Kano govt continues demolition of illegal buildings despite Tinubu’s intervention

The Kano State Government on Sunday, continued with its ongoing demolition of illegal buildings in the state.

The development is coming despite the Federal Government’s intervention in the actions.

It was gathered that the latest demolition includes shops, built beside the fence of Sani Abacha stadium, Kofar Mata, GSS Kofar Nasarawa opposite IBB road, and also the buildings by GGSS Dukawuya, Goron Dutse.

An eyewitness informed the newsmen that the exercise was carried out in the early hours of Sunday by KNUPDA, following the directive of the governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

It could be recalled that the immediate past governor, Dr Abdullahu Ganduje on Friday addressed State House Correspondent, at the Presidential villa Abuja, that he had informed President Bola Tinubu and the IGP of what is happening, with the demolition exercise in the state cumulating to the invitation of the Presidential candidate of NNPP, leader of the party and former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Similarly, Rabiu Kwankwaso told Journalists at the villa on Friday that his meeting with President Bola Tinubu allowed him to brief the President on the atrocities committed by Ganduje while administering the state as a governor.

The state deputy governor, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo also said last week that the demolition of illegal buildings, at schools, prayer grounds, markets, and other places is a continuous exercise.

The Informant247 had on June 3, 2023, reported that the Kano State government commenced the demolition of buildings on public lands, which was tagged as illegal.

It was gathered that a 3-storey building with 90 shops on a race course by Filing Sukuwa, Nasarawa GRA, was demolished around 2.00am, to become the first victim of the demolition campaign.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, an Engineer by Profession, accompanied by the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Gumel, led the removal of the illegal building to show his commitment to the demolition exercise.

The Informant247 recalls that Abba Kabir Yusuf shortly after being declared governor-elect, threatened to demolish buildings in the state on public properties.

This is the first demolition carried out after assuming office on Monday, May 29th.

Also, on Friday, the governor directed the developer carrying out construction works at the Hajj Camp to stop ongoing construction.

All those who erected buildings on government lands or illegally acquired plots of land from the government are said to be jittery about the consequences of their actions.
