Kano Gov introduces N20,000 stipend for schoolgirls to promote education

Alhaji Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, has announced a stipend disbursement initiative aimed at fostering girls’ education.

During his Independence Day address at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, Governor Yusuf announced the provision of a N20,000 stipend for schoolgirls in the state.

This forward-looking pilot scheme is set to benefit over 45,000 schoolgirls.

The governor explained the rationale behind this initiative, stating, “To support girls’ access to education and encourage parents to enroll their daughters in schools, we are introducing a N20,000 stipend for over 45,000 schoolgirls as part of a pilot program to bolster their educational pursuits. Additionally, we are reinstating the girl-child school buses to facilitate their transportation to and from schools.”

Governor Yusuf further disclosed plans to establish additional primary and secondary schools across the 44 local government areas of Kano State. This strategic move aims to address the issue of out-of-school children, who are currently roaming the streets.

Highlighting ongoing educational initiatives, Governor Yusuf noted, “We are systematically renovating schools in phases, providing complimentary uniforms, school bags, and shoes during the initial stage. Moreover, we are in advanced stages of arrangements to offer one free meal per day to primary school pupils. We also plan to sponsor 1001 first-class graduates for Master’s degree programs at foreign universities.”

The governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges of unemployment, poverty, and youth restiveness that afflict the nation.

On the occasion of the independence anniversary, Governor Yusuf paid a heartfelt tribute to the great nationalists and patriotic freedom fighters who made tremendous sacrifices to secure the nation’s freedom.
