Kano Gov declares war on same-sex marriage, other immoral practices with new bill
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has taken a significant step by approving a bill aimed at prohibiting same-sex marriage and what he terms “immoral practices” in the state.
This decision came during the 31st State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House Annex in Kwankwasiyya City, according to a statement from his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf has firmly stated that his administration will uphold Islamic values and protect the cultural heritage of Kano.
He pointed out that the legislation specifically addresses same-sex marriage and local traditions known as ‘Madugo’ and ‘Liwadi,’ which he affirmed are considered forbidden in the region.
“Under no circumstance will we allow acts that contradict our religion and traditions to take root in Kano. This government is duty-bound to protect the moral integrity of our society,” he declared.
Should the Assembly pass the proposed law, it will impose stringent legal penalties on those found guilty of engaging in or promoting such behaviors.
The governor expressed optimism that lawmakers would act promptly on the bill, describing it as essential for safeguarding the state’s moral and social wellbeing.
