Kaduna Govt releases ₦2.32bn for pensions, gratuities, death benefits
The Kaduna State Government has approved the release of ₦2.321 billion for the payment of pensions, gratuities, and death benefits to retirees and families of deceased civil servants across the state.
The development, announced in a statement on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, is part of Governor Uba Sani’s ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of senior citizens and honouring their years of service.
According to the statement, the funds will cover “Accrued Pension Rights” under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) as well as gratuities and death entitlements under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
With the latest release, the current administration has now paid ₦6.678 billion in 2025 alone and ₦13.5 billion in the last two years.
Governor Sani, who reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the welfare of pensioners, described the payment as both a statutory duty and a moral obligation.
“The welfare of pensioners remains a top priority of the Kaduna State Government. Regular and timely payments will continue to ease the hardship faced by our senior citizens,” the governor said.
“This approval reflects our dedication to ensuring the dignity of retirees, protecting their rights, and reinforcing the trust of the public workforce,” he added.
The Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Pension Bureau, Ibrahim Balarabe, disclosed that a total of 661 beneficiaries will benefit from the current disbursement.
Of the amount released, ₦1.736 billion has been allocated for the accrued pension rights of 511 retirees under the CPS, while ₦585 million will go towards gratuities and death benefits for 315 retirees and next-of-kin under the DBS.
Balarabe explained that payments for those under the Contributory Pension Scheme will be made directly into their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) managed by their respective Pension Fund Administrators.
Beneficiaries under the Defined Benefit Scheme, he added, will undergo verification and screening before disbursement.
