Kaduna govt earmarks N6.6bn for township roads in 2022
The Kaduna State Government has earmarked N6.6 billion for the construction of township roads in 2022.
The budget document, obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna, shows that the construction of state trunk roads and the construction of Kawo bridge got N2.2 billion each.
The N12.1 billion earmarked for Kaduna State Road Agency for capital projects also showed that N80.6 million would be spent on the construction of box culverts.
The government also allocated N132.9 million for the design and construction of double coat surface dressed roads; N200.3 million for consultancy services on road projects and N85 million for provision of road signages and markings.
Beautification of bus rapid transit lanes and road pavements got N135.6 million; provision of Infrastructure at new layouts got N365.9 million, while N200 million was earmarked for the purchase of plants and equipment.
Similarly, the state government has allocated N11.5 billion to the Ministry for Public Works and Infrastructure for capital projects in 2022.
The budget shows that the N3 billion would be spent on the construction and rehabilitation of roads including consultancy services while N1.6 billion would be spent on the provision of integrated solar powered streetlights.
It also showed that N3 billion was earmarked for Zaria Water Supply and Expansion Project being supported by Islamic Development Bank and N500 million for rehabilitation of dams across the state.
A total of N600 million was allocated for the provision of solar power in Zaria 150 million litres per day Water Treatment Plant including perimeter lighting in other water works.
According to the document, N23.5 million is for a mechanic workshop for skills acquisition; N500 million for infrastructure in new layouts; and N24 million for Infrastructure Master Plan.
It also showed that N500 million would be spent on procurement of water treatment chemicals and consumables and N1.4 billion on construction and rehabilitation of water facilities including consultancy Services.
Also, N300 million was allocated for the provision of water, sanitation and hygiene facilities and services under the World Bank-funded Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene programme.
“N2.6 billion is allocated to Kaduna State Facilities Management Agency for capital projects of which N2.1 billion is allocated for repairs and renovation of state government assets.
“A total of N173.4 million is for landscaping of state government premises, and N255.2 million for furnishing and fittings of ministries, department and agencies and government Lodges and residences,” the document stated.
Meanwhile,some stakeholders have applauded the state government for allocating N6.6 billion for township roads and the on-going urban renewal projects, and urged for transparency and accountability in the execution of the projects.
Reacting, the National President of Campaign for Democracy, an NGO, Mr Abdul Bako, told NAN that detailed locations of the projects and the bill of quantity should be provided for transparency and accountability.
He said that this would enable the citizens track the execution of the projects to strengthen their engagement and ensure transparency and accountability.
Also, a Community Development Charter Champion, Mr Godwin Akau, who described the allocation as commendable, urged the government to make the allocated funds available for full implementation of the projects.
“As citizens, we are ready to engage the process to ensure transparency in line with the development need of committees,” Akau said. (NAN)
