JUST IN: President Tinubu deploys army to Kwara community after terrorist attack
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate deployment of an army battalion to prosecute counter-offensive operations codenamed Operation Savannah Shield.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq made the announcement on Wednesday during his visit to Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, following a terrorist attack on the Woro community.
The Informant247 gathered that no fewer than 170 persons were killed by armed men during the attack. Local sources say victims are still being recovered.
According to a caption attached to a one-minute, 25-seconds video posted by a government spokesperson, Governor Abdulrahman arrived in Kaiama on Wednesday night to commiserate with the community over the incident.
The governor, who arrived in Kaiama in the company of service chiefs, said that “75 local Muslims were massacred simply for refusing to surrender to extremists who preached a strange doctrine”.
The attack is regarded as one of the deadliest assaults recorded this year in Kwara State, which has been ravaged by banditry and kidnapping, among other security challenges. The northern and southern parts of the state have been the most affected by the insecurity.
