Jumat prayers remain suspended as Council continues consultation
Kwara State Council of Ulamma said on Thursday that the Jumat prayers remain suspended in the state as consultations with stakeholders and authorities continues, THE INFORMANT247 reports.
A statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin by the secretary to the Council, Justice Salihu Oloruntoyin Mohammed, stated that the decision was in line with the directive of the Emir of Ilorin who doubles as Chairman of the state traditional council of chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
The Council advised Muslim Ummah to remain calm and resolute on the fact that the authorities are taking serious steps against the community spread of the highly contagious COVID-19 pandemic.
The statement maintained that the Jumat prayers will commence as soon as the ongoing deliberations by the Council of Ulamma, the state government’s representatives and relevant stakeholders is completed.
The Council further urged religious leaders in the state to adhere strictly with the health caregivers instructions in a bid to support the government and the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, in the crusade against the global Covid-19 deadly pandemic in the state.
Recall that Kwara State Government on June 3rd announced the relaxation of the restriction placed on places of worship as part of measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
However, on June 4, the Council of Ulama in Ilorin, Kwara State rejected the conditions by the state government for the reopening of mosques in the state stating that majority of stakeholders are above the age limit of 65 years listed for non-participation in prayers/Jumaat service.
